Student Program Offerings:

Suzuki Institute at PhoenixPhest! takes place Monday through Friday, August 16-20, for students. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with each student having an individualized schedule that will include three hours of small and large group classes, plus scheduled individual practice time and electives. Parents are expected to attend classes with Suzuki Institute students.

  • Aug 16-20: Student Institute: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass
  • Small and large group and master classes, plus orchestra.
  • Optional chamber music and general music. Enrichment classes.
  • There will be group play-ins by instrument and a final group concert for everyone on the afternoon of Friday, August 20.
  • All students will be able to play, if they wish, on an afternoon solo recital during the week. There are no auditions; just sign up for a polished piece you would like to perform with piano. Your scheduled performance date will be given to you at registration on Monday, August 16.
  • Students above Book 4 should consider participating in PhoenixPhest! Grande, a more intensive program that emphasizes chamber music.

Teacher Training Program Offerings:

  • Every Child Can! taught by Ronda Cole (Sunday, August 15). Note: This course is the required first class in Suzuki teacher education and is also highly recommended for parents and other interested adults.
  • Violin Book 1-4 Overview taught by Ronda Cole (Aug 16-20). Note: This is an enrichment class available to those who have previously completed and registered the Violin Book 1 through 4 training courses with the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
  • Violin Book 5 taught by Mark Mutter (Aug 16-20)
  • Violin Book 6 taught by Joanne Bath (Aug 16-20)
  • Violin Book 7 taught by Geri Arnold (Aug 16-20)
  • Violin Book 9 taught by Linda Fiore (Aug 16–20)
  • Cello Book 1 teacher training by Tanya Carey (Aug 15-22, Sunday-Sunday)

  • Registration fee $50 (maximum of $100 per family)

Teacher Training Fees:

  • Every Child Can! $115
  • Overview of Books 1–4: Registration fee of $55, Tuition $475
  • Book 1 Cello and Books 5, 6, 7, 9 Violin: Registration fee of $55, Tuition $400

Note: The Every Child Can class and the Cello Book 1 training course can be taken together during the institute. Every Child Can is a one-day class that takes place during the day on Sunday, August 15, and Cello Book 1 will begin with a short session in the evening of Sunday, August 15, that will not conflict with it.

Housing & Meals:

Suzuki Institute at PhoenixPhest! is a day camp, and housing and meals are not provided. The Eastern Michigan University campus has a Student Center with Green Market Bistro, Starbucks, and Wendy’s food choices.

We have made arrangements with the Hampton Inn-Ann Arbor North for a block of rooms under the Phoenix Ensemble name at a discounted rate ($99 per night) for nights during the week of August 15-21. This hotel is located 5.0 miles from the EMU campus on Plymouth and Green roads, just off the Plymouth Road exit of US-23.

We also have arranged with Comfort Inn-Ann Arbor on Carpenter Road just off the Washtenaw Avenue exit of US-23, approximately 3 miles from the EMU campus, for a block of rooms under the Phoenix Ensemble name at a discount. During the week of August 9-14, rooms are $104.99 per night. During the week of August 15-20, rooms are $67.49 per night. Reservations should be made by telephone at 734-477-9977 .
